Bulgaria is the largest producer of herbs and spices in the European Union. According to Eurostat, in the year 2017, a total of 81,000 tons of aromatic and medicinal plants and spices were grown in the country.
Belgian electronic components manufacturer Melexis has started the construction of a new plant in Bulgaria's capital Sofia, in which it plans to invest a total of EUR 75 million in the next five years.
As of 1st January 2018, Bulgaria is taking over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU. Up until June, the country will host a number of forums, focusing on priority spheres like security, enlargement of the EU
Bulgaria to receive EUR 2 bln from the EU budget in 2018. The budget provides for investment in research, scientific work, infrastructure, employment and handling problems with youth unemployment, as well as payments to farmers.
